The city Melbourne is situated in Australia, on the south coast.

Melbourne is a city of neighbourhoods. Italian or Chinese, groovy or chic, bohemian or beachside Melbourne has them all. Each has its own character instilled by the type of people who live and work there. From all over the world who have brought their customs, beliefs, businesses, food, art and style to the city.

The best approach to visiting Melbourne is to know what you want from your stay, and then locate yourself appropriately. For a corporate business trip, or if you just want to be in the living heart of the city, Melbournes central business district is the place to be. If you are in search of nightlife, glamour or a more Hollywood approach to business, South Yarra and Toorak in the cities east will serve you well. For affordable accommodation with access to pubs and live music, or more expensive beachside hotels, St Kilda may be the best choice.

Kings Domain is a tourist attraction. This is the elegant part of the city where amid the park like surroundings on a hill top is Government House, the residence of the Governor of Victoria. There are guided tours of the residence that are run by the National Trust, one of the highlights being the state ballroom which occupies the entire south wing. The building, constructed in 1872, is a replica of Queen Victories palace in England on the Isle of Wight.

Old Melbourne Gaol is the prison which was built in stages between 1841 to 1864. The gold rush of the 1850s caused quite a bit of lawlessness that it had to be expanded. The prison was closed for use in 1923 and today is a relic of the past. The Australian folk hero, Ned Kelly, who is still held with much awe and fascination by many, was hanged in this prison along with about 100 other people. The museum outlines the histories of some murderers and their victims like the story of Martha Needle who poisoned her husband and daughters with arsenic.

Queen Victoria Market is a market which has guided tours and not because the food and vegetable stalls just seems to go on for ever. The market is huge. More than that, the tours are intended make sure visitors get to the right spots of activity in this robust place. Visitors can go on a Foodies Dream Tour where they can sample the best of the fare at the market. Alternatively, the Heritage Tour familiarises you with the history of the market which has been in existence for more than 100 years, and was once the site of a cemetery. You can always go on a do it yourself tour and equally have fun.

Hand-picked by computer, CANCÚN is, if nothing else, proof of Mexico’s remarkable ability to get things done in a hurry if the political will is there. A fishing village of 120 people as recently as 1970, it’s now a city with a resident population of half a million and receives almost two million visitors a year. To some extent the computer selected its location well. Cancún is marginally closer to Miami than it is to Mexico City, and if you come on an all-inclusive package tour the place has a lot to offer: striking modern hotels on white-sand beaches; high-class entertainment including parachuting, jet-skiing, scuba-diving and golf; a hectic nightlife; and from here much of the rest of the Yucatán is easily accessible. For the independent traveller, though, it is expensive, and can be frustrating and unwelcoming. You may well be forced to spend the night here, but without pots of money the true pleasures of the place will elude you.

There are, in effect, two quite separate parts to Cancún: the zona commercial downtown – the shopping and residential centre which, as it gets older, is becoming genuinely earthy – and the zona hotelera, a string of hotels and tourist amenities around “Cancún island”, actually a narrow strip of sandy land connected to the mainland at each end by causeways. It encloses a huge lagoon, so there’s water on both sides.

Darjeeling owes’ its grandeur to its natural beauty, its clean fresh mountain air and above all, the smiling resilient people for whom it is a home. Known for its natural splendor, Darjeeling’s best gift to its’ visitors is the dawn of a new day. The mountains awaken first with a tentative peeking of the sun. A steep ride, five kilometers from Ghoom, or an invigorating walk up a steep incline, leads sun worshippers to Tiger Hill. The air is chilly with darkness and damp.

Darjeeling offers all that is precious in nature-the hush of the hills, the green depth of the forest and the majesty of the mountains. It is a tradition while visiting Darjeeling to go to the Tiger Hill before daybreak to see the first rays of the sun strike the mountains. Another tradition is to spend a few hours everyday taking in the air at the Observatory
Hill, the popular meeting place for tourists as well as residents. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is a paradise for trekkers. You can, if you wish, go on short or long treks, depending on your stamina and enthusiasm.

For witnessing the sheer magnificence of mountains, unsullied and pristine, nothing compares with a visit to the famous hill station of Darjeeling in West Bengal. Even as you drive up the curvaceous roads or take the famous toy train to your destination, you will be awestruck by the resplendence of nature. Go through our tour offers for Darjeeling and decide which one is the best for you. If you are not looking for the one given here, call us.

Qutub Minar was raised by Qutub-ud-Din in 1199 AD, either as a victory tower or as a minaret to the adjacent mosque. It is one of the finest Islamic structures ever raised and is Delhi’s most recognised landmark. However, only the first storey was accomplished by Qutb-ud-din and the rest were built by his successor and son-in-law, IItumish (1211-36 AD). The two circular stories in white marble were built by Firozshah Tughlaq in 1368, who used marble to face the redstone. Qutub Minar is a red sandstone tower beautified with intricate and striking carvings and is inscribed with verses from the holy Quran. Its projecting balconies with inscriptional decorative bands on different storeys heighten its decorative effect.

An earthquake in the early 19th century destroyed its crowning cupola. An English engineer, Major Robert Smith, replaced it in 1829, but his addition looked so grossly out of place that it was removed in 1848 by Governor-General Lord Hardings. It now stands on the lawns and has acquired the sobriquet Smith’s Folly.

Till a while ago, the base of the Minar had a number of glass plates banded by concrete, installed by the Archaeological Survey of India to monitor earthquakes.
